The narrator’s character in Cathedral was interesting to me as well. I agree he is an antihero as he is an ordinary guy and initially, a pretty reluctant and disinterested participant in the goings on of the story. He does seem to have an uneasiness about both his wife’s ex-husband and of the relationship his wife and Robert share. Though this might indicate jealousy, I read it more as aversion and insecurity. Although the narrator’s statements are concise in general, when he speaks of the ex-husband, he rushes through to get across the essentials and adds an indicator of his disinterest in thinking about it.…

Thousands of thoughts raced through his head all at once for he has never experienced this before. The day that I will always be able to remember the exact details, despite the shudder that would come from recalling it. I had had a pretty basic life up to now. I had an older brother in college and two parents who had taken me to church every Sunday since I was a little girl; despite the fact that my father and the rest of my family were Jewish.…

The young freshman had actually yet to sleep with any of the girls at College. In fact, he'd only had sex twice in his entire life, both of those intoxicated fumblings with one of the High School whores who'd spread their legs for any male with a bottle of liquor and an attitude; both of which Stuart possessed, and had happened late at night, under the cover of darkness. Of course, that number had been multiplied ten-fold when swapping stories with the other members of Delta Tau Chi, as had tales of his sexual prowess and stamina. The thing was, that Stuart hadn't actually being lying about that, however what had never occurred to the young man was that both times he'd been drunk nearly to the point of unconsciousness, and it was a miracle…

As I sat on the hard floor of the rifle range, stretching for the first raider practice of the season, a new cadet came towards me. I silently assessed him as he neared closer. He gave off the airs of a nondescript high school student. ‘His caliber is unequivocally that of B team member’ was my initial impression of the fledgling raider-to-be. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley talks about a monster, who transforms from an innocent individual to an evil person at the end. The entire story revolves around the monster and his creator, who abandons the monster at the time of monster’s creation. Furthermore, the society rejects the monster and this rejection changes the harmless being to a harmful creature. Thus, Shelly comments on the idea of human nature being learned and not innate through her tale of the monster. I strongly believe Mary Shelley’s portrayal of the monster in the story depicts human transformation based on their experience in the society.…
