Mark Gonzales Research Papers

I chose Mark Gonzales for this project because he is possibly one of the artist that inspired me the most. His style in art is just amazing and also his style in skateboarding , he is also quite the poet. I just love his lifestyle and views on life.

Mark Gonzales was born on June 1st of 1968 in South Gate, California. He is of Mexican descent and he is still living, drawing and skating to this day. He has travelled all over the world, he recently went on a skateboarding trip all the world basically, to places such as Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Barcelona, etc. Something that I love so much about his artwork is how he incorporates skateboarding into his artwork without the art being nothing but skulls, fire and other very cliche ideas. He uses abstraction and surrealism in a lot of his work, he also uses contour quite a bit and you can obviously tell. He also uses the experiences from all his trips to inspire his artwork. He especially likes to create zines. One of his famous pieces is Artistik Merit, in this piece there is an upside down bust of a man, next to that is a metal folding

I made New York shots separate from the rest because there is a lot weird stuff going on in New York, so he gets unique and cool shots such as there were these guys riding on a circle board, a bunch of skateboards screwed together to form a big circle of skateboards which is rideable, and he got a shot of them riding down the middle of the road in downtown Brooklyn, New York. Also since we’re on the subject of skateboards now, I’d like to include that just recently Mark was named the “Most Influential Skateboarder of All Time” by Transworld Skateboarding Magazine, also he was recently entered into the skateboarding hall of fame. He also owns a skateboarding company called Krooked Skateboards, he sketches out the designs for the skateboards

I believe that he embodies something different then all of the other artists I have studied thus far. As I was searching through the various pictures on the internet of his sculptures, I was truly stunned at how life-like they look. With each sculpture I looked at I took on a different set of emotion every time. When looking at the dead body one I instantly felt sad, disturbed, and a little dark and twisted. When I looked at “Ghost” I felt her pain and insecurity as it is written all over her face.…

Both Gonzales and La Chrisx write about issues and stereotypes that people had about Chicana/os. Initially, the term “Chicano” was seen as an insult to Mexican-Americans. We learn though that it was later embraced by Mexican-American activists as a way to transform an insult into a signifier of ethnic strength and pride and as a refusal to assimilate into mainstream white culture. Gonzales speaks about how…

On August 20, 1989, the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, brutally murdered their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, at their mansion on North Elm Drive, Beverly Hills. Jose Menendez, a highly successful businessman, received a single shotgun bullet, fired at point-blank, to the back of his head and died instantly. Their mother, Kitty Menendez was shot multiple times at a relatively close range, to the point where Lyle ran out of bullets and reloaded only to continue shooting her as she was escaping the den in which they were supposedly watching television, until she collapsed onto the couch. Lyle called the police shortly after, pretending to be shocked, and informed them through drawn out sobs that someone killed their parents, in an attempt…
