Mark Foster

“The worst thing I can do for you, is something you can do for yourself.” Being a father of two, my uncle, Mark Foster, used this quote a lot. Mark grew up and lived in Richland, Michigan. He was part of a family of six and had two brothers and 1 sister. When Mark was in college, his mother died from breast cancer, but his father was later remarried. He was also diagnosed with diabetes, a metabolic disease in which the body’s inability to produce any or enough insulin, at the age of twelve. My uncle, Mark Foster, inspires me to never give up through hard times by coaching and teaching, caring for his family, and staying positive through his diabetes and depression. The first thing my uncle does to inspire me is caring for his family. The quote I used in the last paragraph, “ The worst thing I can do for you is something you can do for yourself,” shows that Mark wants his kids to be independent and be able to live on their own some day. Also, Mark’s wife, Mary Jane, runs her own business and he is incredibly supportive of her and constantly is helping with the kids. Along with that, Mark takes his kids to their sporting events and is remarkably supportive of them while also constantly making them laugh with his extraordinary sense of humor. When hard times hit, I can just look at my uncle. He got through all of his hard times and still is. Even though things can get tough, every time I see my uncle, he has a huge smile on his face and isn’t afraid of what might strike him next. That instantly gives me relief and keeps me going. I know one day, if I ever need help my uncle will be there for me, but he has taught me so much already I don’t think I will need him.
