Pathos is a quality that evokes pity or sadness. With the use of emotion Antony easily gains the support of the Romans. He shows his love for Caesar in hopes to strike the hearts of the commoners. “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!” was Antony’s best use of ethos. He is trying to get into the Roman’s hearts with his status as a trustworthy man. Antony continues to build Caesar up showing he is loyal. Within his words he makes the commoners question Brutus’s ethos. Mark Antony repeats seven times within his speech,”but Brutus is an honorable man” but he is implying Brutus is not. His sarcastic tone furthermore shows Brutus is just the opposite. Antony makes it look like Brutus is fine with betraying someone who loves him, making it look like Antony would not react that way if he were in Brutus’s shoes.
