In my family both of my teen daughters are always watching these type of youtube videos. Exactly what the documentary discusses, is exactly what my teens do. There are actually conventions where all the youtubers get together in one place for their fans. My daughters are going to one in June. One of my daughters has her own vlog on youtube and she is always trying to get more subscribers and likes.
The surveillance of not just teens but adults as well, has become an incredibly useful tool for advertisers, marketers and ultimately sales for companies. Honestly, my teens do not care that their viewing habits and likes are being used for the benefit of others and neither do I. I feel that this is simply the advancement of technology and I am fascinated how much information can be obtained. I feel this is a plus for the marketers and for the public, for the reason that, the marketers can reach their target audiences and the public will not have advertisements show up of products they have no interest in.
