Marjorie's POV: A Short Story

Marjorie’s POV I stood there confused for a moment as I asked her to repeat what she had just said. “I said that he has no mother, and that he doesn't have skates, is there something I missed?” Miss Clark asked with her eyes filled with question. Sudden realization hit me as I began to remember what Jerry had told me before, “What do you mean he has no mother? Or that he has no skates for that matter, Jerry has told me otherwise.” She began to look around her desk in search of something, “Here it is, take a look for yourself.” She said as she began to eye me cautiously. ‘This can’t be true, he would have said something earlier if this happened,’ I thought to myself as I read the newspaper article over again. ‘Mother found dead after found …show more content…
His hair, now illuminated with the bright sun's rays. “Miss Marjorie, I did not mean to harm you with what I said. I wanted to believe that I would have a Mother someday so that is why I said that I did have one. But when you told me that you were leaving, I was so upset. I didn’t want to acknowledge that you were going to leave me like my mother did also.” He couldn’t contain the tears anymore as he began to sob while shuddering. It was then that Marjorie realized, that if she left Jerry here she would be no better than his mother. Except for Marjorie still being alive of course. She began to hug Jerry closer now, rubbing his back soothingly trying to calm him down. “It’s alright now Jerry, I won’t leave you here now.. not anymore” She said as she let him go. “Tell you what, would you like to come with me? And not just temporarily.” Jerry wiped away the remaining tears with his right hand as he glanced up at Marjorie. “D-Do you mean..” He didn’t get to finish his question as Marjorie answered for him “Yes, I want you to be my son. I don't want you to stay an orphan anymore, I want to take care of you like my own son.” Jerry’s eyes lit up with happiness as I smiled softly “Let's go back now. If not we might not make it to Mexico on time.” Marjorie said with a light chuckle. Jerry smiled as they both began to go through the forest and up the hill. “Miss Marjorie,” “Yes Jerry?” “I’m glad to have a mother like you now.” Jerry smiled as they both began to descend to the bottom of the hill. Marjorie smiled “And I’m glad to have you as my son from now

I placed my mug down on the coffee table I had purchased at a local flea market some months ago. It was already marked with stains and scratches from past spills and the thin coating of gloss that it once glowed with had almost faded completely. Unwashed dishes and stacks of old newspapers and magazines lived on the surface of the wooden stand. I reached for the most recent New York Times and flipped through the pages, uninterested. On the back of the last page hung a wrinkled check with smudged ink and unidentifiable streaks.…

High above me, the last of the morning stars are winking out sadly. They flash their last bling-silver grains of sand in the dawn sky. I sigh as their bejewelled brilliance fade into nothingness. I did not know that I was about to hear the words that would change my life forever. It was just a regular Friday afternoon in August at around 3:30 pm. My dad had just come back from the Kellogg Eye Center; he was getting his eyes checked because he had a lesion leak making a cloud over his left eye. When he and my mom got home, he was lying on the couch looking very sad. I went into the kitchen and said “Wow, he looks really sad”.…
