Analysis Of Maritime Patrol Community Health

Maritime Patrol Community Health Managing manpower at the Enlisted Community Manager (ECM) level can be compared to being a restaurant produce purchasing agent. You never truly know exactly what you’re going to need on any given day and having more is always better than not having enough. When the analogy is shifted to aircraft maintenance it becomes far easier to trend the requirements because of how streamlined the reporting process are in Naval Aviation. Managers make the best decision allowed with the data available but what happens when that data is skewed? This is the issue the Poseidon fleet is facing at the moment, with the aging Orion airframe slowly leaving the pattern our maritime patrol community is facing …show more content…
Therefore, maintenance data both unscheduled and scheduled is readily abundant. This data was collected and used to identify what types and how many of each designator would be required to maintain the aircraft for the Navy. It is during this process the data collected does not correctly identify with the severity that is involved with flying military missions both operational and on a training level. The Boeing engines had an initial overhaul requirement of 10,000 hours prior to having any unscheduled maintenance completed and yet to date the community has replaced three engines not getting close to 10,000 hours. A standard commercial flight has one take-off and one landing with the training requirements on these aircraft the average pilot trainer has eight landings. The matrix comprised for commercial use is not for one standard with Naval …show more content…
Instead of using commercial data, the Poseidon platform has been in service now for five years. Initially maintained by contractors the airframe is now solely maintained in the fleet by Sailors. Knowing that Sailors are not the best source of man-hour data, a better collection of data would be to coordinate three different sources. The first would be connecting a trend between flight hours and landing cycles in the commercial sector looking for maintenance requirements on the unscheduled avenue. The second would the same data on the military side, looking at the same trends; however, our flight hours would be far less, but landing cycles would be greater. Once averaged this would be a good document to estimate the maintenance requirements. The third document would be the Sailors Man-hours logged via OOMA, while not the most accurate tool it does help provide data on Sailor generated maintenance to a specific troubleshooting, removal and replacement of individual components. Using these data points ECMs could more accurately measure the manning requirement for the community. These would take time and while effective in the long term, the community still has a problem today. Close-loop detailing will not fix the shortages but by allowing the platforms experienced Sailors the opportunity to stay in the community, it will effectively bridge the gap until the fix can be put into

The American Navy and Merchant Marine both possess a longstanding history of prowess showcased by their perseverance through the changing times, adapting to the trials of advancement as a ship would adapt to the changing of the tides. The further advancement of technology during the 19th and 20th Centuries brought about a shift in the maritime and wartime industries, gone were the looming hulls of vast wooden ships to be replaced by the thick, steel riveted hulls of naval battleships, carriers, and cruisers galore. The merchant marine once more patrolled the sea alongside the Navy in defending her country and its efforts. The military aircraft carriers that developed in the 20th Century, perhaps, were the source of one of the largest changes…

I exposed myself to new ideas and obstacles when I became an ocean lifeguard. Surprisingly, the hardest part about being a lifeguard is communicating with people from different cultures and backgrounds. For example, one beach has a large population of Spanish speaking immigrants. To communicate with them was a hefty setback for someone like myself who does not come from a Spanish speaking background. To adapt, I asked as many Spanish speakers as possible, how to say certain phrases until I was able to communicate with basic sentences to get my point across.…

With this understanding, students are able to debate and defend the effectiveness of American policies and law processes while simultaneously proposing solutions. On April 22, 1790 the Revenue Cutter Service began under Alexander Hamilton with the mission of enforcing maritime laws in U.S harbors. Yet, in 1915 under the U.S Title 14, the Coast Guard was established as a military branch, changing the way missions are conducted. Assumptions are that the through maintenance the airplane can surpass its intended lifespan, but costs are high. Manufacturers sent 20 years as the replacement age for many models, although it was extended. Analysis made on US commercial airplanes shows that in 1997, 46% were over 17 years and 28% over 20years, whilst in 2001, 31% were over 15years of age and of them 66% of them accounted for the total per block hour maintenance. Nevertheless, degeneration occurs, it is polished by numerous factors; intensity use; quality and quantity of repair; environment; and scheduled maintenance.
