The Marist basketball team is simply going to play a game that happens to be in North Carolina. In one article, Mr. Massie, who is gay and a long time employee at Marist, said “How disappointing for me, a gay man, former long time employee and major donor, to know Marist College doesn't care about #LGBT rights by agreeing to have its men’s team play against Duke in NC”. Boycotting is will not solve this problem. Marist going to North Carolina and publicly showing their support for the LGBT community will raise more awareness. Marist is not supporting this discriminatory policy, by not boycotting like other institutions, it does not mean that we are supporting. There are many ways to protest and and boycotting is not always the appropriate way. The daily gazette said “ In other words, everyone else is doing it, so its OK.” in response to Marist saying that thousands of colleges still plan to send students there. Marist is not following everyone else. They are in fact going to stand out and make a statement when they are the only school openly showing that they are against the bathroom …show more content…
This game is going to be nationally televised and Marist is going to get a lot of recognition. It is a perfect stage for Marist to show their support for the LGBT community. It is also great for the basketball team to get noticed across the nation for future basketball recruits. High school basketball players will notice Marist playing against a top team and grow interest into the school. This basketball game against Duke is not only good for Marist to show their support but also a great way get noticed as a program and
