Marion Tech Informative Speech

I: Attention Grabber: Everyone is busy, and time is hard find! Going to school around your schedule can be the difference that allows someone to further their education.
II: Preview of Speech: Health Information Technology, or HIT, is Marion Tech’s only degree that can be earned completely online. But what is HIT, and what can someone do with an HIT degree? Not everyone is sure.
III: Relevance to audience: If you’re an undecided major, or helping a friend of family member choose a major, HIT may be a great option.
IV Credibility: I have completed MTC’s HIT program, with only speech left to graduate. I am going to explain what HIT is and what careers are available to those with an HIT degree.

The codes are universal and used for billings. Most coders are part of a hospital system, and can also work at home. Certification is usually necessary to be a coder. The HIT program prepares students to sit for the Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Transitions: Medical Records are another big part of HIT.
III: Medical Records Technician
A medical record technician maintains health records so that only people who should see them do. Sometimes records are needed for the patient, other physicians, or legal reasons. Someone has to process requests for records and ensure that they are only the authorized information is released. Being a RHIT will greatly increase your chances of becoming a records technician.
Transition: Lastly, Cancer Registrars are part of the HIT field.

IV: Cancer Registrar
A cancer registrar collect, maintain, and report cancer data. This data is used for statistical, research, and educational purposes. Cancer registrars typically earn a specialized certification through the National Cancer Registrars Association in addition to their HIT
