Marine debris is anything from a plastic bag to an aluminum can that made the ocean or beach its home. Whether it was left by a careless beachgoer or a boat dropped it overboard accidently, it is now debris. Litter is another name for it, though that name is more commonly associated with its land counterpart, and it also affects the environment and those inhabiting it. The affects are devastating to the marine life in the oceans with animals such as sea turtles mistaking it for food or getting caught in it and being unable to free itself leading to its death.
