Advantages of a marine biologist are the working conditions, the hours, opportunities, and fringe benefits. The working condition of a biologist is amazing. In the marine life, you travel to exotic places like Aruba, Cuba, and the Philippines. While sometimes you stay at home and work in a lab. The hours flexible also. It really depends on the type of research you’re doing, it can vary to 8-15 hours. The mental demands of the job is you need to get used to making adjustments easily as research can change really quickly. As you can imagine, when you become more experienced in this field you get better jobs. The more knowledge you have, you can conduct your own research or become a boss. For fringe benefits, “[m]arine biologists can expect to receive medical benefits, paid vacations, sick days...retirement savings plan” (Middleton). But for every job there are also disadvantages, acting as the hours. Even though the hours are flexible, some days you have to work extra long hours and work on the weekends. Moreover, since you are traveling every second, you’ll have to get used to not being home for a long period of time. The hazards of the job are the risk of being caught during a hurricane or if the waters are extremely rough. Despite the downsides of the job, I still love it. The best part of a marine biologist is being able to
