Marine Biology Personal Statement

Improved Essays
After I receive my degree in biology I want to venture out to receive my master's in marine biology. My other interest include marine environmental science, ecology, environmental science and policy, and marine ecology. The reason that I am so passionate about being a part of the diversity in wetland sciences is that there are so many people in my community who are misinformed in terms of government environmental policy, and also underrepresented in the enterprise of research. One of the ways that I engage in my community is encouraging youths that attend elementary, middle, and high school to consider taking up any science field if they show the slightest bit of interest. Like myself many children in my community assumed that the only career

    Seaworld Research Paper

Many American families believe that SeaWorld is the best family vacation spot with its many parks all over the country. A typical visit to SeaWorld includes petting dolphins, visiting the aquarium, and being splashed by a majestic Orca. While SeaWorld may seem family-friendly, it definitely is not animal friendly. The tourist attraction, also known as SeaWorld, tortures its animals by ripping them from their homes and families, placing them in pools that might as well be bathtubs. Although families enjoy taking a trip to SeaWorld, they would feel a lot differently if they knew about the constant pain and torture inflicted on SeaWorld’s animals.…

During my senior year of high school, I participated in an Office of Naval Research sponsored competition called SeaPerch. SeaPerch pits teams of students against each other to create a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and complete a series of underwater challenges. Every day for the majority of my senior year, I would go from school to work and then home, where I spent every moment of my free time working on my team’s ROV. Countless hours were spent devising new ideas, testing them, and watching them sink uselessly to the bottom of my testing tank. On competition day, however, our team excelled, scoring third out of over 50 teams.…

My science fair experiment is on jellyfish, I am looking into how different types of jellyfish feed. Jellyfish all around the world have mostly the same features but some have a venom that is powerful enough to kill a human in less than a minute. There are approximately thirty-seven species with this venom. However, there are many jellyfish that do not have this venom, these jellyfish have cells on their tentacles called nematocysts. They paralyze their prey by stinging them.…

    Ocean Biome Essay

    • 752 Words

The biome that my partner, Emerald Hailger, and I chose for our project was the freshwater aquatic biome—rivers/streams. The other types of freshwater ecosystems covered in this chapter are lakes, ponds, wetlands (bogs), water (marshes), wetlands (swamps), and estuaries (salt marshes and mangrove swamps). The freshwater river/streams are different from the other ecosystems because the animals that live here feed off of the plants that grow on the edge of these bodies of water. Since there is not a large amount of plants growing in these bodies of water, the remnants in the water eventually increase at the end of these bodies of water (downstream). This results in plants gaining the ability to create their own foundation for growing.…

Writing about my career goals is a struggle, even after a possible eighteen years of thought. Since elementary school I have switched my career goal five times; first I wanted to be an engineer, then a biochemist, then a veterinarian, then a pharmacist, and now, an environmental scientist. Over time, I have realized that they all stem from an urge to use my scientific proficiency to make the world a better place for current and future generations. Now, I cannot think of a better way to do this than to pursue environmental science at Huxley College starting this winter quarter.…

The deep ocean is considered an extreme environment because of the low temperatures, high pressures, lack of oxygen and no sunlight. These conditions have caused the organisms which live there to evolve, often through unusual and unique adaptations, so they can live, reproduce, and thrive. An extreme environment is a place where humans normally do not live or could die there. There are organisms caused extremophiles that live there and are so well-adapted that they readily grow and multiply in order to survive. An example of an extremophile which lives in the deep ocean is the Anglerfish.…
