Marine Academy Application Essay Sample

When I think of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the aspects that most impress me about this learning environment are the academies resources. In addition to having some of the most recognized professors in world, the United States Merchant Marine Academy is committed to maintaining a standard for excellence. The curriculum that draws my interest to the academy is the marine transportation major, where I would have the opportunity to earn the United States Coast Guard third mate’s deck license. This is an important part of why I am seeking an appointment to the academy as it would allow me to sail unlimited tonnage vessels. Before long, the underclassmen were doing a better job of picking up trash and cleaning up after themselves. The upperclassmen and I explained that if the underclassmen ever needed help, we would be their. I learned that setting an example through my actions can have a profound impact on other people. This is the kind of precedent I would like to set upon arriving at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Serving others through missionary work and service projects has strengthened my interest in marine transportation and service to my country. Providing humanitarian aid to the people of Detroit during the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America national youth gathering was a rewarding experience. It is a privilege to help those who are less fortunate and need necessities that I take for granted. It was a humbling reminder of how I want to be committed to serving in the United States through a career in marine transportation.
