Though some may have gotten to know her for Rhythm series during the 1970’s she began during performance art while completing her education at the Academy of Fine Art in Zagreb (SYME,2)( Ungvarsky,1-3). Now as I mention before most people learnt or knew of her form her Rhythm series. The series is a series of different performance pieces done in the 1970’s. Though the series is very famous there is one in particular called “Rhythm 0” were she gave her audience or co-artist a chance to be involved in her work by laying a number of weapons and allowing them to choose which one to use on her (SYME,1). You may think may a knife or something but she took it serious and so extreme that one of the options for a weapon was a loaded gun. I also, learned from the Salem Press Biographical Encyclopedia that she not only put everything she had in her artwork but she also, did the same for love. She has been praised for allowing audience members to become artists themselves by participating in her shows. She has also established the Marina Abramović Institute in New York to provide a permanent place to recognize art such as hers that is time-based and has no lasting physical form (Ungvarsky, 4).
