Summering in Shinnecock Hills near Southampton, NY, he lead an art school, where he created beautiful paintings of both the landscapes and the society. In general, Fritz Scholder used people to show ethnic subject matter. This does not coincide with what I have learned about earlier painters such as those in the Oklahoma School. The most artwork from earlier painters are traditional portraits and pictures of recording the ceremony. Fritz Scholder combined Indian culture with American culture to show the Indian with a beer can, the Indian with a American flag, and a portrait of himself with a cat. In the early history of art, female artists were uncommon and denied of the same amount of credit for their talents as their male counterparts. It was a rare occurrence for female artists to paint portraits of themselves, however in the 16th and 17th century we begin to see a shift in this trend. In the Netherlands during the 16th century, Dutch artist, Judith Leyster used oil on canvas to paint a portrait of herself, titled Self-Portrait (1635). The Self-Portrait features Leyster, a young woman, looking directly at the viewer whilst painting a scene of a man playing the violin. Leyster owned an art workshop and was the only female in the Dutch Republic to sell her paintings in the market during that era.…

On the left is a small illustration of a 1920’s night-club of the rich as well as educational reference, and a scene of the destruction of war. When looking at the mural, both sides reveal a strong message of the desired and undesirable states of society at the time period. For instance, in the lower left of the mural students look to the central figure, however, a key component to this portion is they 're young and mixed race and ethnicity showing the social changes regarding racial views in the future. The resulting disjunction—between words that refer to an all-too-human state and images devoid of people—suggests the inherent limitations of both photography and language as “descriptive systems” to address a complex social problem.” This quote represents how much of Rosler’s emotion she puts into her work to create a piece which not only shows social states, but causes the reader to look further into the words and writings next to it, which creates a stronger connection between the audience and the empty photographs. By taking out the person/people whom the work is surrounding, it leaves you wondering many things about the person, creating your own image in your head of their life and how you perceive them to be.
