Marijuana, also known as “cannabis or “weed” is perhaps one of, if not the most popular drug in our world today being used by teens, adults, and cancer patients alike. Now the real question is; Should marijuana be illegal? With all the different drugs, alcohol, and 7000+ chemical cigarettes, this “drug” is the least of our worries when it comes to threats on health and society. So what is the reason for marijuana not being made legal? In an article on pewresearch.org it states that 53% of people think marijuana should be made legal where as 56% want cigarettes to be ILLEGAL, and for good reason. A single cigarette contains 7000 chemicals. Apart from this around 54000 people die every year from secondhand smoke alone. Comparing this to the 0 of people killed by marijuana. Yes 0. No one has ever died from marijuana. Because o this its strange how smoking a plant is illegal but smoking 7000 chemicals is not. Thats not to say smoking marijuana isnt harmful to your lungs. But not as much as cigarettes, giving around 200000 people a year lung cancer. This being said,the dangers of cigarettes greatly surpass the instabilities of marijuana. However, whenever you compare the factual evidence of this “drug” and cigarettes and alcohol it does not seem like such a danger. No one knows when the debate on whether it should be legal or not will be over. It will possibly never end. And the fact that weed makes around a billion dollars every year just proves there is too much to stop it. They need to just make it legal because people are not going to stop, they are going to continue smoking no matter what anyone says. And comparing it to the statistics of drugs and alcohol even more greatly validates the reasons why it should be
