Marijuana Persuasive Speech

Imagine that you are in a great deal of pain each day of your life. The pain gets to be so great that you finally go to the doctor. The doctor, being a person who has been trained to treat not only for maladies, but for pain, prescribes a prescription pain medication after learning what other methods you have tried. Depending on the cause of your pain, he or she might recommend physical therapy, or even a pain clinic. You go home and breathe a sigh of relief because finally you will feel better. Next, imagine that you have a child who has a seizure. Your child has never done this before. You call the ambulance, who takes your child to the emergency room. After testing is done, it is determined your child has a seizure disorder. The neurologist prescribes a medication that will help the seizures to not occur. At first, it does help. Twenty-nine states have medical marijuana laws that allow patients to obtain legal marijuana to use for medical purposes (Clark). Kentucky is not one of them. As such, you cannot go to another state and get marijuana for medical purposes and return to Kentucky with it. If you do, because there is not a federal law, you can be arrested for possession. The only people making money from marijuana in Kentucky are the illegal drug dealers. Legalization of marijuana for medical purposes would mean Kentucky could allow patients that have tried other methods to control their pain, reduce their spasticity, or control their seizures to have access to a natural remedy. Rather than being a man-made medication, the marijuana plant is a naturally occurring plant. Scientists can grow it to specifications that could be set forth by law and controlled so that consumers would know what they were getting.
