Reason Case was accepted for investigation:
On 03/22/2018, Hennepin Child Protection accepted a report alleged neglect of parental exposure of a controlled substance by mother, Lateira Beamon, while pregnant with Baby girl Karen Young. Per reporter Lateira gave birth to baby girl Karen Young on 3/21/18 through a planned C-Section. Per reporter Lateira tested positive for THC on 3/20/18 and baby girl Karen young uring screen tested positive for marijuana a birth on 3/21/18. Per reporter Lateira and Baby Girl Karen Young both medically discharged from Masonic children’s hospital on 3/23/18.

This writer met with both parents. Both stated that they are not married but live together raising their children together.

Lateira stated that she plans to stay sober however, she admitted that she still smoking marijuana after her hospital discharge. She stated that her UA will be positive at this time. This writer discussed about the side effect of marijuana during and after pregnancy. CPI discussed about developmental delay and hyperactivity disorder in children in long term. Ms. Lateira stated that she is aware of it and advised not smoke near her newborn during her hospital stay. Ms. Lateira stated that she plans to stay sober. Ms. Lateira stated that she is not nursing her daughter and using formula. This worker observed her to be appropriate and responded in caring/loving manner towards her children during the meeting.
Ms. Lateira stated that her son KE ANDRE father has not been supportive and no communication from him. Ms. Lateira stated that she will be working on to stay sober and see her OBGYN doctor for her 6 weeks checkup. Ms. Lateira reported no other concerns at home.
*3/26/18 Safe sleep brochures were provided to Ms. Lateira. Also, CP went over safe sleep with Ms. Lateira and her newborn. Ms. Lateira stated that she puts her baby to sleep on her back on a flat surface. The baby sleeps in a bassinet. This worker reminded Ms. Lateira that a safe sleep for baby is important and it will protect her child from accidents. Ms. Lateira agreed and followed the CP's
