The painting that I will be comparing A Sunday on La Grande Jatte to is one named Horse and Cart (“Horse And Cart.”). The first similarity is that both pieces seem to feature the outdoors in the background. I really think that Georges has a passion for the outdoors as multiple pieces of his artwork feature the outdoors and have it as a focal point in the background of the piece, such as Horse and Cart does. Another similarity that the two pieces share is the technique used to create it. He uses pointillism in both pieces, which gives the piece style, and helps it stand out from all other artwork. Another similarity is that there is an animal in the piece, which help to make the piece look realistic. A difference that the two pieces have is that A Sunday On La Grande Jatte has a lot of people scattered throughout the island, while Horse and Cart has no people in it at all. Another difference is that Georges uses shadows in A Sunday On La Grande Jatte, while using none in the other painting. Georges also loves to produce pieces of artwork that has a calm and pleasant feel …show more content…
People shouldn't be worrying about the small things, and taking in the view that is right in front of them. I also think he wants a person to relax and enjoy the things that are in front of someone. He was able to achieve this effect this by the stippling technique he used. The color choices he used gave it a realistic still life feeling too. Iconography in this piece is the people looking out at the body of water in front of them. This could represent people stopping and enjoying the beauty around them instead of all the daily stress they have. The theme is relaxing and peacefulness because the people appear to be doing just that. There is also humor in the piece as one woman has a monkey on a leash. I think Georges goal was to be different and to stand out from all other artists which I believe he achieved.
Overall, A Sunday On La Grande Jatte is such a unique piece that is very beautiful. As a child going to the museum, this was always my favorite piece to see. Not only was it beautiful, but also the size of the piece was amazing to see. My favorite detail that is included is the woman that has the monkey on a leash as her pet. The detail that Georges put into the piece is marvelous, especially the technique of
