With the help of friends and others she was able to find a lab where she would share with another French physicist, Pierre Curie. With the help of a special mineral called, pitchblende, the two found a brand new element that was also radioactive. They element they discovered is the element Polonium. (Online.Infobase) As they were celebrating about their new discovery of Polonium, they came across something else. In the year 1902 the Curies found another new element which was named radium. The year 1903 was a big year for Marie Curie. Marie was now knows as the first female physicist to win a Nobel Prize. Her husband, Pierre Curie was as well awarded with the Nobel Prize. Marie and Pierre Curie were now looked at as worldwide phenomenons.
Later on in 1906, Marie faced another devastating loss. Her husband died due to him stepping out in front of a moving horse-drawn wagon.
