Well, the same exact thing happened to Marie Antoinette. She married Louis XVI when she was 14 years old and was expected to have children immediately. This would have consummated their marriage, which simply means to make official through sex. But they wouldn’t have sex for the next seven years of their marriage. Louis XVI would spend his time hunting and when he was around, he wouldn’t pay much attention to his wife.

The marriage was consummated and she became pregnant with her first child, Marie Therese of France. Her world was completely changed. A popular quote of hers is, “You shall be mine; you shall have my undivided care; you will share my happiness; you will alleviate my sufferings.” (pg. 168) You can tell from this quote, the way this baby really changed her and captured her heart, more than the king ever really did. Almost immediately after the birth of her first daughter, she became pregnant again.
This time, it was a boy. His name was Louis Joseph. Being the first born boy was a huge deal in all of France because it made him the Dauphin. That means he is next in line to the throne. She loved him just as she did her daughter. After him, their children Louis Charles and Sophie Helen Beatrice were born. They would be the last of their 4 children.
