Marianist Tradition

Decent Essays
At the start of my Moeller High School career, I began my journey to become a man, a man of service, and more importantly a man in the Marianist tradition. When I began my journey, I could not have imagined the change in the person I once was to the person I am today. My change is credited to receiving an education that prompts the Marianist tradition. This tradition, not only fostered my grow in learning and in faith, it provided me with a sense of community and family spirit that supported and encouraged me to achieve my very best. This encouragement allowed me to grow as a leader. Through leadership opportunities with Pastoral Ministries, as President of the Philanthropy Club, and a Kairos leader, I have been able to help support other

I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. I have visited very diverse communities ranging from the inner city of Detroit, MI to a small, economically depressed village in Honduras, to the mountains of Pennsylvania and inside homes very different from mine in my own…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

Most of my development can be traced back to my Vietnamese Catholic youth group that I have been a part of for pretty much my entire life. Through weekly activities, helping with local events and organizations, hosting plays, and service for our church, I find myself to be much of an influential than a participant. Our time is spent interpreting pieces from the bible and how we can connect those pieces to our daily lives. Being part of this learning allowed me to improve my faith significantly. The community helped me become more than just typical generous person, someone who is willing of sacrifice his time for others, someone who worries for others when they are not feeling well, someone who desperately wants to make a positive impact.…

In attempt to develop range in my observation of support groups, I once again found myself returning to an old stomping ground. Throughout my years in high school, I dedicated several hours a week to my local church in a growth group for high school girls. Although I currently experience mixed emotions with religion, I recalled how influential it was during my teenaged years to have such support, convincing me to return to observe a group to identify ways in why it was so helpful for me during difficult moments in my life. Luckily, my previous growth group leader was still leading groups and graciously accepted my request to be a guest that following week. Meeting once a week, the purpose of these groups was to discuss the Bible and life issues, but based on personal experience, these groups offered much more than a few life lectures.…

My passion to be a teacher in the Catholic school system has started a long time ago when I decided the teaching profession was for me. I was just coming out of my Catholic high school and I had made a decision to take a Bachelor of Health Science Degree, in physical education and biology with the end goal to become a high school teacher. It was during this time when I noticed myself asking for help a lot and depending on God’s plan to determine my success. The job of a principal in any academic setting is a monumental task as students, curriculum, parents, teachers, faculty, legal issues, etc., all vie for guidance and attention. But I believe that the job of a Catholic school leader entails far more because I believe the profession of Catholic school leader is a vocation rooted in Christ. My role as a Catholic school principal is one of managerial leader, educational leader and most importantly as spiritual leader. It is my job to nurture a faith community that is built with relational trust and where my school can be transformed into a sacred place (Sergiovanni, 2015, p.12).…
