If I, Ernest Howard Rockhill III was running for class president I would guarantee more freedom during learning labs. There would be no more teachers telling you when you can or cannot play ping pong with your bros. If this was true I could wreak havoc on Matt in ping pong. The principal of CSD, Connie Wessner would also make your day better by extending jump start, the break between second and third period by five minutes. If we had this extended jump start it would keep people from being so aloof, distant from each other.…

The oldest pair of socks I still own is my Bob the Builder socks. I got for Christmas when I was only four years old. I am more than glad that I still have them because it built up my admiration for socks. Those Bob the Builder socks are my lucky pair of socks. I have probably worn them every year in preparation for a piano recital, school play, benefit show, baseball game, math test, or whatever is thrown my way.…

Why do I, Nadia Thomas, wish to be your SGA president? Honestly, because I want to make a change and leave a heavy impact on South Atlanta. When I was growing up, I was overly excited to go with my siblings to the local high school because no matter what time of day the student body was always excited and filled with adrenaline when it came to school spirit and education. Literally there was no mourning or moping kid in sight and the teachers had the spirit too. So when I entered high school already being known as the most hype freshman anyone had ever seen, I knew I had to leave my mark.…

Essay Question 2 In high school I participated in the student government by joining the Student Council and becoming the Corresponding Secretary. The responsibilities of the Corresponding Secretary included updating the bulletin boards and running the bulletin board committee meetings, running the school blood drives, and as with every officer acting as a mentor to the new members. If you ask a group of people if they think they have the great qualities of leadership, many people will not raise their hand. I believe we as people have made leadership as something bigger than us. We’ve made leadership about changing the world. We think it makes us cocky or conceited to even think that we are a good leader. Leadership is more about the small, nice little things you’ve done for someone and how much it affected that person.…

My week at the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Maryland Girls State program was an eye-opening occasion. I went to Girls State knowing little to nothing about the government in the state of Maryland. I had no interest in running for any type of government office. Girls State was originally just a place to get away from my parents for a week, but once I got there I realized it was so much more. The first day was not a full day because of registration but it felt like it because of all the sessions we were in and the elections for city government.…

As I am writing this letter, I recognize my chance of successfully appealing is statistically against my favor. Like many students who received the same letter, I did feel disappointed. With a beautiful campus situated a few miles from the beach, with world-class professors and a learning environment capable of inspiring students to be greater, I can understand why there is high demand to attend such a remarkable institution. From visiting the school, I see how this campus can be any student's dream school and this is why I cannot squander the opportunity to write this candid letter. I have to give this one more shot.…

Ever since I can recall, I have had a fervent passion for government and politics. Unlike kids my age, I would always pick up a newspaper to keep up on current events, instead of watching SpongeBob or playing video games. I grew up with a craving to help people and solve America’s congressional dysfunction. Many of my friends and teacher started to call me “Mr. President,” and thus after being chosen as most likely to become President in middle and high school, my motivation to study government and make a lasting impact on the political history of America grew stronger.…

I unintentionally won a presidential election. Poster boards, a strong speech, campaign cards, and a desire to experience something I’d never experienced before fueled my accidental competitiveness. My one reason for participating was because I thought it’d be a fun thing to experience. Not once did intend or even tease myself with the idea of winning. One of the greatest memories I have to date taught me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things because you lose 100% of the chances you fail to take.…

The thing that surprised me the most about the spring break trip was the city of Memphis. I had much higher expectations for the city. Although those expectations were not fair they were nowhere close to being met. I visited other parts of Tennessee before but never Memphis, so I had high expectations for the city since I had been down south before. The vibes I received from Memphis were poor.…

I had always looked back on my Student Council experiences like one gazes at postcards hanging across string. Posters of a pizza with my head replacing the pepperoni. Vivacious hallway decorating tournaments. Uncomfortably silent brainstorming sessions at 6:53am on Thursdays. Student Council has defined my high school experience and my intentions beyond its halls—so much so that I had always thought that to find a broader meaning would be to look past its distinct experiences.…
