During the mid-1990s, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Faith Evans, TLC, Xscape, Whitney Houston and Boyz II Men brought contemporary R&B to the masses.
Whitney Houston released hits “All the Man That I Need” from 1990 and “I Will Always Love You” from 1992. “I Will Always Love You”, a song from the 1992 hit film The Bodyguard, spent 14 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100. It is the best selling single by a female act of all time.
Mariah Carey's career originated in the early 90’s, with hit singles such as “Vision of Love” and “Love Takes Time”, both from 1990. Her albums Music Box and Daydream are some of the best selling albums of all time, and had major R&B influences. Mariah Carey was declared the Artist of the Decade of the 1990s by Billboard.
