How Maria would normally create her art work was by first starting out drawing and water coloring the image and later painting the image on an oil canvas. Over the year buyers continued to buy and be amazed by her work. In 1690 Maria retired from the world of painting, she was sixty years of age. Zhang was encouraged at a very young age by his family to chase his dreams a pursue painting. In addition, Zhang traveled very frequently with his brother Zhang Shanzi to japan where they would learn textile dyeing. (Wan Q.L. Mun Suk Law, Sophia, 2007). He would continue to travel to various places including Shanghai where he would learn traditional painting styles from well-known artist like Zeng Xi and Li Ruiqing. He then began to forge art pieces and sell them for a good amount of profit. He became so good at it that it came to the point where he would sell and fool “art experts”. Years later he travels back to Beijing where he became an active participant in the arts and cultural scene. Two of the most inspirational painting methods that really influenced Zhang in his own art work was figure painting and large scale landscaping painting. During the 1950’s Zhang left Beijing due to the reaction of the political climate.
