I remember my uncle turning the volume on his speakers up, every time actor Antonio Banderas sang the "Cancion Del Mariachi," during the opening credits of the film, Desperado. Finding out that Los Lobos are the actual genius's behind the song and the score of the film, amazed me. I felt all sorts of nostalgia, listening to that piece again. Though I love the "Cancion Del Mariachi" and "La Bamba," I don't really care for many of their other songs I listened to. Other than the artist that we were introduced to through out the semester, the only one I actually know is Selena y Los Dinos.…

The character in a story is the main foundation in any story, essay, or any other form of writing. These characters not only give the writing a purpose, but present the irony, symbols, and conflicts in the stories. Without the main character there would not be any sort of writing. The main character may also be dynamic, which means the change as the story goes on, or they may be flat, which meants that they don’t change. From the many stories we read in our class, I fell in love with the character Rochelle, from the story “The Bride” by author Christine Granados.…

In Kitchen Table Wisdom, Dr. Rachel Remen offers countless stories demonstrating the importance of creating a medical environment that fosters intimacy, vulnerability, and a willingness to accept the hardest moments of human life. In Remen’s book, these moments all center around death and dying. Through storytelling, Remen is able to illuminate the hidden stories and feelings associated with death, the uncertainty of death, and the fear of losing a loved one. Remen demonstrates that only by breaking away from the bureaucratic and emotionless medical narrative, and instead, by simply offering open ears and a hand to hold for those who are most afraid, can create a sense of inner-peace and an acceptance of death for those dying of terminal illnesses.…
