In the United States, anti-immigration and militarization of the US border is on the rise in order to prevent tress-passers, or undetected immigrants. In this context, the paper seeks to examine the two levels of border construction through the eyes of Maria in the film ‘Maria Full Of Grace’.

FORWARD
‘Joshua Marston’s’ debutant film as a director ‘Maria Full Of Grace’ was remarkable in displaying many controversial yet important issues in today’s world to the silver screen. The film not only dealt with political, anti-feminist and cultural issues but the characters threw light upon the pain and the need for making choices amidst a dearth of options. It suggests the harsh reality of survival and the extent to which people must confront struggles. His realistic portrayal of the drug trade, which includes humans as mules as a way of trafficking drugs to the United States, and his obvious insinuation of how much more needs to be done with the so called “war on drugs” left me spellbound.

The title of the film ‘Maria Full Of Grace’ has varied connotations to the viewer from grace to disgrace and back to grace as the film

Thus, creating a them and us culture, significantly defining the people, their personalities, and their thinking. And till date, there is a feeling of alienation and a misfit that an inhabitant or an individual entering another country. With respect to the film, the only scenes that concerns almost my entire thesis is when Maria is extremely afraid, while crawling through the customs and security checks on JFK, New York. That hour would have been the deadliest, Maria must have felt burning alive with 53 pallets injected in her, when she could barely breathe.
