Maria and Richard Maria and Richard are two clients who I will assess and work with in counseling by using holistic approaches. Maria and Richard have different life scenarios; nonetheless they both have family and gender issues that result in their career decisions. This paper will go into detail about how I will work with each client and what issues are standing in their way from completing their desired career decisions.
Maria
Maria is twenty-four, unmarried, and still lives with her parents. She would like to attend counseling to form goals in life and become less critical of herself. She has thoughts about going back to school, however she doesn’t know if she can juggle as many responsibilities. Maria working, taking care of the household, and helping to take care of her brother. When working with Maria, it is essential to use the holistic approach of self-efficacy. Maria will learn that her attitude can make a difference in her life (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). In counseling, Maria will start working on creating new expectations of self (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). Maria continues to keep her occupation and go through the daily motions of the day because she lacks self-esteem and assertiveness. Marias family is an essential part of her Latino culture. Maria’s family may expect her spend her time helping her brother out. Maria may feel she needs to help her brother in order to stay in the good graces of her family.
