Maria Batista Analysis

Maria Batista, the oldest cashier at Bravo Supermarket in Port Jefferson, New York, is one of that kind of person that looks sad but happy at the same time according to the rest of employees. When I started training to become a cashier at the supermarket, all the cashiers started talking to me about her. Some of them say that she is happy, sweet and kind, but others that she is an unhappy and strange person. At that moment, I became interest in why these people were having different opinions about her. I decide to meet her and find out who she really was. Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact and everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. Music is everything to us and we don’t realize it most of the time or give it enough credit. Music can really change on a daily basis depending on your day. It guides you, even from our ancestors, or historical events like the Jazz age in the roaring twenties, helps define society, and speak up for what people may not listen to when it's just being spoken out loud. Music is important for several reasons. Music can speak for a lot of people. Music is our emotions. The idiom “Don’t judge a book by its cover” relates to Maria story very clearly. People would say she had different sides to her but they didn’t really know what was going on in her personal life. Don’t judge others based on appearance, actions without knowing them. After meeting Maria, I promise myself to try to stop judging others, especially people I haven’t met. I think it is unfair to draw conclusions and opinions about others without knowing them.
