Biography Of Maria Anna Mozart

Maria Anna Mozart was the family’s first prodigy and at one point was considered the finest pianists in Europe, until her younger brother, Wolfgang Mozart, came along. Maria’s father, Leopold Mozart, boasted about how well she played the piano, but it wasn’t long before she was overshadowed by her brother. Maria Anna Mozart, also known as Marianne and nicknamed Nannerl, was born on July 30th 1751 in Salzburg, Austria. Maria is the oldest of 7 children, however only she and her brother Wolfgang survived infancy and lived until adulthood. Her parents were named, Leopold and Anna Maria Mozart. Maria Anna Mozart musical genius turned into composition and her brother Wolfgang announced at one of her early concerts that the song was written for him by his sister. Maria’s father, Leopold, was furious by Wolfgang’s actions and ordered Maria to never compose again, since it was unheard for a woman of the 18th century to become a composer. It is believed that Maria still continued to write music, but none has been identified, forensic document specialist has taken hand writing samples from documents written by the Mozart family and believed that pieces from a family music notebook, with the name “Anonymous 1”, might be Maria’s. Also her father’s journal has an entry that says that any pieces that Maria would have composed were for her brother and even still since girls weren’t allowed to be public musicians and composers she wouldn’t have been able to put her name on the songs. Therefore, it can be believed that some of Wolfgang Mozart’s song were written or influenced by his sister. The orchestration of the piece consists of 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets, 2 horns, timpani and violins. The beginning of the piece is somewhat soft and peace, but that doesn’t last long and the tempo becomes very quick and playful and kind of surprise compared to the introduction. The song goes into a tutti with trumpets and drums, then the tempo hastens again with an array of violins, flutes and oboes. Then there is a slow middle section of the song with a melancholy oboe solo, which makes the song more peace full and dreamlike, as almost like a slow waltz. However, piece once again picks up again repeating the quick theme from the beginning with another tutti, but the song once again slows down and becomes dream like. After the slow moment the song for a final time picks up and repeats the tutti. The piece was beautiful, going from quick and playful, and back too dreamlike and back and forth again makes the listener able to picture a
