One thing from Partricia L. Harold's biography that inspired me was how she was able to overcome the hardships . There was a quote in her biography where she says "I knew that no matter what life threw at me, I would somehow handle it.". This stuck out to me because instead of giving up and letting her situation take over her life, she was able to gather herself together and take control of the situation. In her biography, it tells about how her father was never really there in her life, and when he was, he was only made negative impacts. It also describes how her mother struggled to care for her kids and provide what they needed.…

Motherhood varies in every culture. The Urban Dictionary defines mom as, “The woman who loves you unconditionally from birth, the one who puts her kids before herself and the one who you can always count on above everyone else,” from my experience this is only part of what a mother does. A mother is someone who is underappreciated and is your bestfriend. Motherhood in the hispanic culture is being responsible for the children’s education, teaching the child to be respectful, the child’s health, the house duties, and putting yourself last. All these responsibilities make the mothers the heart of the family and without them a family is not the same.…

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is a memoir of her increasingly difficult and troubling life. Throughout these adventures her and her three siblings travel to many places from California to Phoenix, to the quite backward town of Welch, and to New York City itself. The relationship she has with her parents can be defined by three points, the issue of survival, the loyalty to each other, and the outcome of it all.…

In Jeannette Walls’ life, moving from place to place was no big deal. At least not until her family packed up and moved across the country to a little town called Welch. Jeannette often had to adjust to a new town and a new home, but not an entirely new environment. In her memoir, The Glass Castle, Jeannette recalls doing the “skedaddle” several times. Every Saturday, I distinctly recall the smell of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. The radio would be playing in the background, masked by the overwhelming chatter occurring throughout the house. So many things happening in such a small space: what I remember most, is the sound of laughter, and the smiles that surrounded me. My grandpa hollering because he cannot hear the television, my mother still drowsy from the sleepless night, My grandmother singing to the radio that was barely audible over the commotion, and me, invariably sat looking at all that surrounded me, enthralled at how lucky I was to have a heart so full.…
