The essential premise of Wong’s model is that there should be a greater emphasis on teaching students responsibilities, roles, and procedures, rather than disciplining them. Wong provides strategies to structure the classroom environment to minimize misbehavior. For instance, Wong suggests spending the first two weeks of class teaching rules and procedures that will become routine later. In order to establish good procedures, Wong suggests deciding which routines are necessary, listing the steps that students have to follow in order to participate in and benefit from all class activities, and teaching procedures through explanation, demonstration, and practice.
