A historical figure that I am most inspired by is Margaret Thatcher. She was a trail blazer of her

time. She was an opinionated, high spirted woman, who stood by her beliefs. She rivaled her

male counterparts and inspired women everywhere to become leaders. Margaret Thatcher should

be viewed as an Icon, and society as a whole should be inspired by her accomplishments as a

woman. According to Wikipedia, On October 13th 1925, Margaret Hilda Roberts was born in Grantham

Lincolnshire, to her Mother and father, Alfred and Beatrice Roberts. Her father owned two

grocery stores and was a local minister. Margaret and her sister were raised in a flat over the

larger of the two stores. In 1936, at the age of 11, Margaret won a scholarship

She never gave into the

idealistic role of a woman. In those times it wasn’t common for a woman to play such an active

role in politics’. Most commonly, after marriage and the birth of children, women became house

wives.

From 1954-1979 Thatcher began working her way up the political ladder. Margaret never

gave up her fight to succeed in the political world. In 1967, she was chosen to participate in the

Foreign Leader Program. The program allowed her to visit many U.S. cities, and according to

Wikipedia, even then she was being named the future prime minister. She responded to this by

stating, “There will not be a woman prime minister in my life time, the male population is too

prejudiced." Boy was she wrong!!

In 1975, on February 11th, Thatcher became the conservative party leader and the leader of

the opposition. Suring her time in that position she opposed the welfare state, she believed "The

Keynesian Economic System”, weakened British society. In 1976, she gave a speech in

Kensington Town Hall, making a name for herself attacking the Soviet Union, stating that, "The

Russians are bent on world dominance, and they are rapidly acquiring the means to become

She later made the

statement that,"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s

money.”

Margaret Thatcher was a person of honor and values. She was a woman of many faces. She was

a dedicated wife and mother, at the same time a fierce leader. She was not handed anything in

life. She worked against adversity, fighting an uphill battle her whole adult life. She was a tough

conservative and never backed down from any man who opposed her. She was loved and hated

by many. We as women already have so much to overcome in our lives, Margaret Thatcher over

came all of those things while running a country. Some women never leave their comfort zone,

becoming complacent and comfortable. She saw the injustice in the world and sought to change

it, never once giving up when things became hard. I admire her will of steel and her courage to

face the world. She had her goals in life and never stopped achieving them.

She made many memorable quotes in her life; they still stay in the hearts and minds of many,

like a frozen fragment of time, waiting to be used. Just to name a few; "Any woman
