Margaret Thatcher was the first female Prime Minister in Great Britain and in the western world overall. In addition she was also the longest sitting Prime Minister of the 20th century, sitting for 11 years. From her early childhood, she had been influenced by her father’s political views and had been a devout conservative for most of her life. Despite being the daughter of a grocer, she attended Oxford and graduated with a degree in chemistry. A few years later, she joined the Conservative Party and quickly moved up the ranks. In 1975, Thatcher was elected the leader of the Party and four years later, she became the Prime Minister of Great Britain.
