A hero in my mind is a person who puts others before themselves, who goes out of their way to do things for other people, and who genuinely cares about others and their well-being. I have a wonderful example of a hero right in my family. My personal Michigan hero, my grandma, Margaret Patston, is the greatest hero I know. After she retired from her full time paying job, she did not do what most people would do. She did not go on vacation or sit around and do nothing important. A few years ago, my church advertised a non-paying position for a volunteer to work with Iraqi Immigrants with their English and to help them pass their citizenship test. My grandma was one of the couple people that signed up. Every Thursday
