The movie was shot in Washington Boulevard, Culver City, Los Angeles. The production designer of the film is, William Cameron Menzies and special effects are by Guru Jack Cosgrove. Not only was a plantation and post-war state capital constructed, but also most of the amazing backdrops were hand painted and mixed with live action shots e.g. Stunning Tara’s sunset.
