Mardi Gras Narrative

As I stare off into space, a sense of joy fills my soul, as I start to daydream. My dream takes me not just through space, but time as well. I am in New Orleans for my favorite time of the year, Mardi Gras. Immediately, I start preparing to participate in a parade which my grandfather helped create. For several decades, he and my father have ridden together, however, this year is my first.
We load the float with our “throws” and then, at the scheduled time, jump on. Like a small child in a candy shop, my grandfather is sitting on the float with a smile. He is throwing beads to throngs of people in the crowd, sitting in a chair that I built for him just a week before. This chair allows him to raise and lower his seat using a winch system, which

Emotions including desolation, grief and loneliness were experienced on Memorial Day, 2015. Grief spread throughout my house after the news that my Gramma passed away had reached it. My Mother, Father, two sisters, Dick, who was my Gramma’s partner for 18 years, and many family members all had to cope with this feeling of sadness. When my Mom got the horrible news, I was the first to know. I don’t know if you will believe me, but the only reason I was awake was because of a bad gut feeling.…

July-Day 18 I can barely pull myself out of bed today, it's cold outside the blankets that have kept me safe since my descent to dreamland where I have been since 6:30 PM. I've slept for 12 hours and I want to keep sleeping. I want to stay in bed where nothing happens to any extremes. I dreamt of lighthouses and the light it casts out over the clear blue gulf sending a signal of safety to those passing by. I wonder about all the things that are like lighthouses to me.…

At the beginning of Prom Night in Mississippi, I was absolutely baffled and shocked by all the rules and lies, used to separate both races in Charleston, Mississippi. Certain lies and rules such as, whites suspecting that all blacks behold a gun; both races should not be seen hanging out together etc. For example in the documentary a white and black girl assimilated in a conflict, where the white girl claimed that the black girl had a gun and had intentions to use it against her. Or Jessica, a white student, being punished by her stepfather for having a black friend. In 1992, Morgan Freeman, a famous actor from Charleston, Mississippi, arrived to Charleston high school where he offered to pay all the expenses for an integrated prom, but his…

In “The Hallowe’en Party” by Miriam Waddington, Mr. Luria transforms into a more accepting father figure. His views on how his children should be brought up are modified as the story proceeds. He is portrayed as a very traditional father who immigrated from Russia; he is still embedded to his roots and religion as he prefers the farm to the city and also goes on to teach his children about it. Even though being extremely loving towards his country, Mr. Luria is also depicted as a strict parent. He makes it evident that the children “…[should] not to celebrate Christmas” (para 17) as “…it [is] a [cultural] symbol” (para 17).…

Halloween is like a horror movie, except with drunk teenagers instead of axe murders. It was about two years ago, when we were still living in Germany. It was a fairly peaceful Halloween night and the sun was about to set. My friends and I were walking around the village, what Germans call a town. After about half an hour of us walking around and talking, some acne filled, tall, muscular and older, German teenagers came up to us.…

As I passed through downtown Atlanta, I couldn't help admire the home of the Braves, not just because it was an architectural wonder but because it brought back to mind that very first lesson when Professor Van Huevelen sparked my curiosity when he said we find that there are some things in this world that are repeatable. Repeatable. Repeatable. So a baseball pitcher, if he throws a ball with the same speed and in the same direction, spinning the ball the same, it'll end up going about the same place.…

In my opinion, when there is conflict going on in the story and the protagonist is involved, it greatly impacts the individual's decisions and actions. My opinion could be supported with textual evidence found in 'The Day of the Pelican'. In chapter 10 of the book, the story goes to as how the Lleshi Family are now refugees in Refugee Camp. I chose this as the Conflict because it was honestly the first real conflict I could find before the 9/11 conflict. Certainly, the protagonist family has been through worse times in the beginning, but there is evidence in the book of how living in the Refugee Camp was a Conflict for the family.…

Have you ever got to enjoy hot and ready breakfast in bed? Well, I have, on the day I got to go to Six Flags which to be exact was February the second, twenty-thirteen. Oh, the smell of apple wood honey bacon with two over-medium eggs with a hash brown intrigued with cheese and onions in the middle is the smell of breakfast at its finest. The morning was also a treat in itself with the view of the marvelous, enchanting sunrise and the bluebonnets that my family and I have planted in our backyard gave the right appearance for the new day. Now, this was a Saturday so there’s no school…

It was a hot and humid night in Livingston Parish, Louisiana in the middle of October. My dad, mom, brother, and I were inching our way down the road towards the fairgrounds. The traffic was backed up for at least two miles and my brother and I were restless. At just 9 and 12 we had visions of hot dogs and funnel cakes swimming through our minds, making us ask consistently when we will be there. At almost nine o’clock we finally pull up onto the makeshift dirt driveway heading into the massive parking lot, which was really only a field.…
