The mission objective was to locate a top ranking taliban official named Muhammad Ismail. In the hills of Peck district in the Kunar province, Marcus’s team was found by a couple of Afghan goat herders from the region. His team immediately detained the goat herders and` discussed what to do with them. Eventually after a long period of time they let the goat herders go knowing that that decision could impact their mission and endanger them. Within a hours dozens of taliban warriors surrounded the seals. 3 of the 4 seals died in combat, Marcus was the only one to survive. Despite many injuries Luttrell crawled 7 miles to a nearby village where they protected and healed marcus. After they had gotten contact with the U.S. Military forces, a successful military rescue was launched. “ Despite Luttrell’s harrowing experience, he completed one more tour of duty. The target of Operation Red Wings, Muhammad Ismail was not eliminated during the battle, but was later killed in a firefight with police in Pakistan.” stated Stephen Bajza in the article Marcus Luttrell is the Lone Survivor. Certainly Marcus actions demonstrate the true meaning of a well regarded hero. The world would be a different place without Marcus telling the story of the lone survivor. He will always be remembered for fighting around 200 taliban warriors on Seal Team 10. He will always be one of the greatest heros in Seal Team
