The title of this play is The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. William Shakespeare is the author of this play. I would like to briefly introduce you to character Marcus Brutus. Marcus Brutus was a servant and a close friend to Julius Caesar. Brutus is considered the tragic hero in this play. A tragic hero is defined as a literary character who makes a judgement error that leads to their own death. The role of a tragic hero for Marcus Benedict was through his noble standing, fatal flow, and legacy. In spite of being faithful to Julius Caesar, he always put his country first, even before his family. Marcus Brutus says “What means mean shouting? I do fear the people do choose Caesar for their king… yet I love him well.” (Act 1, scene 2, II.85-89)

Marcus Brutus was a prominent leader and a noble citizen of Rome who leads in the assassination of Julius Caesar.

Marcus Brutus was one of the most complex characters in this play. In this play Brutus has a proud reputation for honor and nobleness, but is always practical, and is often naïve. Brutus was the only character that fashioned his behavior to a strict moral, ethical code, but he takes actions that are unconsciously hypocritical. Knowing that he is defeated, he desires to end his whole life. Brutus wants to end his life and fall on his own sword. Brutus fought until he could fight no more. One of his qualities of being a tragic hero is he has a tragic flaw. That tragic flaw is being honorable, virtuous character who is destined for a downfall, a suffering or a defeat. Brutus’ fate was decided when he decided to listen to the wrong people.
