Mel Martinez is an American lobbyist and former politician who served as a United States Senator from Florida from 2005 to 2009 and as general chairman of the Republican Party from November 2006 until October 19, 2007. He is more than the nation’s first Cuban American Senator. Because he was one of only two Hispanic’s in the U.S. Senate (the other was Democratic Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado) and because he represented Florida and it’s pivotal electoral power, Martinez was perhaps the U.S’s most important Hispanic lawmaker. But when he was elected in Fall 2004 Martinez was widely regarded as little more than a lapdog for President George Bush.…

France was not fond of America at the time so his friends were treated very poorly while he was loved. An incident in his life when he was treated poorly due to being Cuban was actually a couple weeks ago at the airport, arriving back from a two week long cruz. He was sent to immigration/ U.S Customs because of “random selection,” but he says it happens all the time because of his nationality and can be quite frustrating. What was interesting to me was the fact that his family does not talk about issues dealing with the Cuban group and they do not keep up with Cuban traditions.…

As a young child, he was affected by the Mexican Repatriation Movement of the Great Depression, which forced roughly half a million Mexican immigrants out of the U.S., and back to Mexico. This movement came as a way to blame the Hispanic people for their economic disparities, and to remove them from ruining the morals of regular American citizens. As a result of this movement, Castro’s father was sent back to Mexico, and left Castro’s mother to raise their child without his support. Before she remarried years later, Castro experienced a multi-cultural educational experience, in Mexico and in the U.S., while visiting his father. This opened the young child’s eyes to the discrimination of Mexican immigrants in the L.A. School District, and further witnessed the Zoot-Suit Riots.…

Living in a forever-changing world, we have to start rethinking our old immigration policies to better respond to the growing number of people being displaced, and also take into consideration the issues that have created the high volume of refugees worldwide. Both Cubans and Haitians have taken to the high seas in the wake of political and economic instability, hoping to reach the shores of Florida, however they have been subject to very differential treatment. Cubans escaping the hardships of daily life in Cuba due to the decades-long U.S-imposed embargo have long benefited from an immigration policy that allows them to remain in the United States with the possibility to become U.S. citizens. The Cuban adjustment act of 1966 provided an easy route for Cuban citizens to gain a…

The Democrats accept there ought to just be cuts for center and low pay families, however trust they ought to be higher on organizations and well off people. The Republicans accept there ought to be tax reductions for everybody, both partnerships and individuals of all wage levels. I would choose to go to a democrat party, because the democrats are the only party that is doing anything for the middle class and the working class, enforcing laws against white collar crime, crooked business practices, the poisoning of our water and air, selling of hazardous products, illegal immigration, and on and on. Democrats in general try to act on behalf of the average American. Republicans are complete hypocrites who pretend to be morally superior but in reality are usually worse in their own habits.…
