The competition on who wins Maxon’s heart is more intense than ever with only a few girls remaining. It is only a matter of time as tho who will gain his affection and who will be left heartbroken. Key emotions are playing on the remaining girls. Several of the characters personalities can be connected to a song that shows their emotions or hopes. The songs Marching On, Never Say Never, and The Climb each resemble a character in the novel.

Marching On by One Republic resembles Maxon’s feeling towards America. Maxon will do anything to protect and love America. His father does not go easy on him such as when he canes Maxon. America is in a major conflict on who she loves dearest, Maxon or Aspen. The song The Climb says, “Every step I’m taking. Every move I make feels lost with no direction. My faith is shaking, but I gotta keep trying”() resembles how every move she makes with both guys is unclear and seems to go in two directions. America is remarkably brave in this series and knows how to put herself out there which is conflicting to her when she is in love with two guys. Also, when the song says, “There’s always gonna be another mountain, I'm always gonna wanna make it move. Always gonna be a uphill battle, sometimes I’m gonna have to lose”() symbolizes America and how she will trust her instincts and push her way through until she and everyone she cares about is happy. ““When you love someone, you sacrifice’” (Cass) shows how one has to be brave even if they have to let the one they love go. America has a tough decision between Aspen and Maxon, and the song The Climb resembles some of the bravery it takes to go through tough

Since they live in the same palace, they see each other pretty often. This can lead to some stress or self-doubt in the protagonist. Maxon, throughout the book, was very open about how he felt towards America, but he often questioned her feelings toward him. He proclaimed, "I know that you know how I feel about you, why can't you tell me the same?" Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness – solo project of Andrew McMahon of Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin fame – creates smooth, energetic pop rock on their latest release Zombies On Broadway. The album follows in the footsteps of McMahon’s eponymous debut, providing piano- and vocal-driven songs that showcase singer Andrew McMahon’s talents for music and lyricism. Although it starts slow, with tracks like the spoken/rapped “Brooklyn, You’re Killing Me” leaving the listener waiting for more, the album peaks in the center with vivacious lead single “Fire Escape”. It’s no wonder the song is at #15 on the alternative charts; it is full of life and liveliness that makes it catchy. However, the album as a whole does not mirror this feeling.…

“Ragged Old Flag” is a patriotic song that proves that you should not judge a book by its cover. It tells of an old man who shows the narrator that there is more than what meets the eye about the ragged old flag. The old man begins to account different events that the flag participated in throughout history. The ragged old flag managed to stay in good shape even after it “got cut with a sword in Chancellorsville” and it “turned blood red in World War II”. The theme of “Ragged Old Flag” is that although the United States has faced many struggles in the past it is still holding together at its seams ready for what the future will bring.…

During high school, I participated in the KYYMCA Youth and Government program. The paramount conference of this program is called the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA). This conference serves as a mock session of the Kentucky legislature in which students are able to propose and debate bills. Thus, students become well-versed in debate procedure and, most of all, familiar with the rap of the gavel following the ruling on a bill’s passage. Students will either hear the phrase, “It is the decision of the chair that this bill has been passed, and it has” (rap rap), or “It is the decision of the chair that this bill has failed, and it has” (rap rap).…

The song “Coming Down” by Five Finger Death Punch uses ethos to appeal to its audience. Both the lyrics and the video use an abundance of emotions but you cannot understand one without the other. My first thought when hearing this song was that it was about one of two things, saving a life or ending one. These things very heavily contrast but the video confirmed my thoughts to be both true and false.…

In ‘Respect’ there are many different musical lines that bring together the piece. In the intro of the song it is just the brass, guitar, and drums playing for four measures until Aretha Franklin starts singing. The back-up singers and the piano’s entrance is about a half of a beat after Aretha’s entrance. At this point all of the instruments are in full swing. The brass has a solo about half way through the song; the saxophone having the melody and the trombone and trumpets playing the harmony.…
