Moreover, The Marching Chiefs provide much more to the community than just music and a half-time performance. The college atmosphere often extends off campus and into the surround community. It is obvious that Tallahassee is home to the Seminoles; whether it is shown through the display of Florida State signs, bumper stickers, or even local business names, people living or visiting Tallahassee know that Florida State University is here. This sense of pride also creates a sense of togetherness within the community. The Marching Chiefs play a crucial role by producing a common sound that represents the university.…
Rubbing Off in the 110 I’ve always been involved with marching band most of my time in school starting in 5th grade. I fell in love with it. I consider marching band an art form. The band marches in many different designs or a patterns on the field while playing music, and for the Marching 110, they perform a dance at the end. For the rubbings project, I wanted to celebrate my time here at Ohio University and give thanks to The Most Exciting Band In The Land.…
There are several things that I can do personally to make this marching season amazing. First, I want to maintain a healthy diet. I think being able to have a healthy diet can help me come to rehearsal and have plenty of energy. Secondly, I will start having a morning routine of workouts. These workouts will help me during the season so I will give my best performance.…
If I were offered the role of either the villain or the hero in a movie, I would pick the hero. A hero must convey the following traits, focus, responsibility, determination, and courage. I have chosen these traits, because I feel they are most prominent in my life. As a hero, you have to be focused on the task in front of you.…
You sit down to read a book to let your imagination go and you realize that the story you are reading is bringing back memories instead. Every story has different impressions on each individual reader depending on the reader’s experiences. In reading Sherman Alexie’s fictional memoir War Dances it brought back memories, anxieties, and disappointments that created mixed emotions within me. A part in the story that brought back a memory is when Alexie describes a scene between the narrator and his Native American father.…
Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…
Brass bands were extremely popular in the 1800s. During the Civil War, every military unit had their own music squad. Since the war had ended, the music squads were broken up, all the soldiers returned home, and they formed new bands in their own towns. In fact, just about every town in the newly unified America had one. Every brass band included multiple drummers in order to play the multiple drum parts.…
Marching band has all of these and thats what makes it a sport. Starting off with physical exertion, marching band members must hold your horn…
The outdoor setting of marching band fosters the flashiness and untamed passion required to make an emotional bond with far-away audiences. Each year in my marching band, I embraced the opportunities to learn new show tunes and skills for front ensemble, bass drum, snare drum, and then tenor drums. My love for marching band has influenced my personal musical selections. My favorite band is the funky brasshouse trio, Too Many Zooz. I would love to form a musical group while in college.…
From the start of my four year commitment to football and marching band I saw leadership all around me. My first summer of football my freshman year the seniors were prime examples of leadership. They were right there to correct form on our lifts, blocks, and set the overall example of what it meant to be a Mead football player. Later that summer I threw in marching band camp to my agenda. The drum major, my sister, lead the band with kept the entire band in order, and worked with us until our sets were flawless.…
Final Draft Marching band is a group of musicians who play instruments while marching together. Either to make shapes and pictures. Usually at some sports events and parades and are performed competitively as well. The Blue Devils are a well known, professional, marching band. Nevertheless there is a lot of physics involved.…
My entire life has been filled with music. When I was a little kid, my mother and I would listen to Gloria Estefan in the car and sing at the top of our lungs. As I got older, I decided that I wanted to keep as much music in my life as possible, and that’s why I joined choir. “Keep Calm and Sing On” reminds me that no matter where life takes me, I can drown my troubles or worries with singing. Choir soon lead me to band, where I decided that I would play the alto saxophone.…
In my seventh grade year, I decided to join band. I had known how to play flute, and though I wasn't the best I still enjoyed it so I continued. I played in band in eighth grade, too. The directors had decided since I was so “talented” I should join marching band.…
Life isn’t easy and you have to work very hard to get what you want. I remember working very hard to do my very best at an audition for symphonic band. After marching band we have the option to choose between being in concert band or being in symphonic band. The difference between these two choices is that the symphonic band plays harder music and you have to record yourself playing something assigned by the band teacher. Completing this was a struggle for me because I made many recordings and I didn’t know which one sounded best.…
People are always looking for someone to lead them. We all need someone to look to for help or inspiration, whether it be a movie star, author, or even a teacher. Nowadays leadership is key to success. Just recently I learned how true the previous statement is. As part of the marching band, I play the alto saxophone and have had to deal with poor leadership within the section.…
