Ever since I saw a high school band perform for us during an assembly, I’ve wanted to be a part of the band experience. I’ve been waiting for today all summer, today I get to pick which instrument I get to play. I’m not even the slightest bit mad that I have to go to my school a day before school even starts. As I walk into my elementary school, I proudly remember that I’ve gone to this school for years. It feels good knowing I get to finally be a fifth grader and rule the school. I walk down the long hallway leading my parents to a door that has a piece of paper with ‘INSTRUMENT TRY-OUT’ written on it. After a few minutes which seem like hours another pair of parents and a girl a little taller than me walks out with a small black box. I can’t wait to see what I get to leave with. In marching band I learned how to play another instrument called the mellophone. This experience has changed me drastically for the better. It has helped build both my character and my work ethic. Marching band has taught me what happens when you combine hard work and a passion for music. Both the Linn Mar Marching Lions and LM musical pit orchestra are volunteer bands meaning members join of their own volition. Because of these experiences, I have been able to forge a multitude of strong friendships with others who have the same drive and passion for music as I do. These friendships have helped to guide me throughout my academic career. From my band peers I learned how to create a solid work ethic, and they have challenged me to take higher level classes. My band peers have nearly perfect grades which drives me to work hard and do the same. Without them I wouldn’t have a goal to work towards, and my grades would be significantly
