I started my musical career out at an early age. Starting my first fellowship in elementary school in the fifth grade by playing the flute and getting instructed by one of the best band instructor’s ever Mr. Hartz. But before moving on to the flute every little person played their first instrument which was the recorder where we played in the fourth grade. At this time music wasn't as advanced and the songs we played included lullaby type of songs including Mary had a little lamb, Hot Cross buns, and many more. Since I played band in elementary school starting from the fifth to the eleventh grade, I’ve been real accustomed to all musical aspects.…

Most people look at a marching band and think it’s just a teacher, directing the members of the band. In reality, there is much more than just the band director helping the students. Some bands have 200 people others only have 20. No matter the size may be, the band instructor could use some extra leadership help from other people. In a marching band you have not only the director, but the drum majors, and the section leaders to help out the band as well.…

The positive influence this program and all of its current and former members has had on me encourages me to strive to achieve this same influence for others. Because of this, I am applying for the position of Woodwind Sargent this upcoming marching season. I believe I have not only the skills, but the drive to be a successful leader, and will do everything in my power to guide the woodwind section to new heights.…

My dad said “Alright, I told her you can’t do it this year,” after he hung up the phone on the band teacher. We had just wasted the whole day doing nothing, just lagging around my grandparents house in Ohio. Now I knew that I was going to be doing even more nothing. I learned to believe that if you believe that you can do something and work toward it you can do it. I learned this during my freshman year in marching band when I switch from tuba to front ensemble. Although it was hard to do and took a lot of work but was worth it in the end. At the end of eighth grade I had a huge decision on whether to stick with the tuba or do what I want and join the front ensemble (pit).…
