I performed in marching band in grades 9,10, 11, and 12. We practiced at 7:00 a.m. until school started all four years during the first nine weeks of school. I also completed band camp in summer for two weeks at 8 hours per day prior to school every year. Participated in 4 weekend competitions each year including Harvest of Harmony. The trips usually involved leaving on a bus at 9 a.m. and returning home 12 hours later. In all of my years in band I was part of the trumpet section. I auditioned and participated in symphonic band in grades 10, 11, and 12. The difference between concert and symphonic band is that in symphonic band you have to audition and play harder music. I received 2 varsity letter awards for participating in symphonic band

Competition days are long and tiring, but always full of excitement. There is a process as to how the day will go depending on when we perform, where we have to travel, and many other aspects. Most of them start out the same way and go in a similar order every time, but there are always surprises that come along the way during these days. As the day starts on a competition Saturday, the Worthington Kilbourne Marching Band arrives normally in the late morning or early afternoon.…

In eighth grade, I decided to audition for GMEA District Honor Band. The audition itself was nerve-racking, but I made it and was able to get fourth chair. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life because I got to spend all day studying music with others who shared the same passion as I do. Last year was my first year in marching band. At the end of the year at the school's spring concert, I was awarded the Wildcat Rookie of the Year, which was a huge achievement for my.…

The outdoor setting of marching band fosters the flashiness and untamed passion required to make an emotional bond with far-away audiences. Each year in my marching band, I embraced the opportunities to learn new show tunes and skills for front ensemble, bass drum, snare drum, and then tenor drums. My love for marching band has influenced my personal musical selections. My favorite band is the funky brasshouse trio, Too Many Zooz. I would love to form a musical group while in college.…

Memoir Rough Draft While everyone starts to complain about school starting, I was already at school before August for marching band. Day in and day out, all of us worked our hardest, having fun, helping out, and getting to know each other well. It was hot, many times over a hundred degrees, although sometimes it felt worse, as if we were getting baked in the warm sun rays. However, we were there for a purpose, and we all shared a common goal, a dream, to become better as a marching band. Of course we were exhausted, after long hours, but I owe my life to band for making me who I am.…

I listened to two pieces of Irish music the first was a piece pertaining to Irish marching bagpipes. Since this is marching music there is a constant snare drum going on as well as some sort of horn players playing in the background. First of all, its hearing how well the players are playing in tune with each other is amazing and how unified their sound is. There are times when you distinctly know there is a multitude of players playing as it adds to the overall effect of the march as this style of music demands. Also there are times when the sound just stacks on top of each other perfectly and it sounds like one bagpipe player.…

During my 8th grade year, I had joined band searching for a chance of belonging. I had discovered, however, that band is more than just having a group of people to hang out with. Since I joined about two years later than most, practicing became a requirement. Every night I went home and rehearsed for hours, just so I wouldn’t fall further behind. About 500 blown-out reeds and two broken oboes later…

I joined the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble at the high school and continued to try and better myself as a musician. My music department also offered me other musical opportunities such as festivals. I have attended several festivals such as the Lakes Region music festival and the All New England music festival. These festivals allowed me to come together with other students from different schools that loved singing and performing as much as I did. Every time I perform at one of these festivals I am overwhelmed by how beautiful music can be when everyone I am working with is just as passionate as I am about the work we are doing and also extremely talented.…
