Hope the garage sale went well! Sadly I made the decision that Mel will not continue in marching band because of his back pain. I already signed up as chaperone in all the activities in charms and I wouldn’t be able to do it :(. I wish you and the marching band ALL the BEST!! I’m sure they are going to do FANTASTIC in the rest of the season :) Thanks for always been so supportive and all you do for our kids!

Rubbing Off in the 110 I’ve always been involved with marching band most of my time in school starting in 5th grade. I fell in love with it. I consider marching band an art form. The band marches in many different designs or a patterns on the field while playing music, and for the Marching 110, they perform a dance at the end. For the rubbings project, I wanted to celebrate my time here at Ohio University and give thanks to The Most Exciting Band In The Land.…

Furthermore, instrumentation allows for the musical composition to produce a melody by arranging the piece in a certain way with each individual instrument in mind; this includes: brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments, or instruments that are used while walking. Essentially, the instruments are individually selected and placed in different combinations for performances. Because marching bands are working with several different types of instruments, instrumentation is an important consideration when developing the musical composition. The artistic works of the Marching Chiefs are sophisticated, well-rehearsed and easily noted when watching one hundred or more members march and produce a melody with harmony while using a variety of instruments.…

In high school, I remember where my biggest dream changed into a reality. I was a member of the Greenville High School Tiger Pride Marching Band. I played the alto saxophone. Unlike my bandmates, I did not know how to read music then. I played by ear, and whatever scale, jazz run, or chromatic I heard, I could play it back just like that.…

Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…

From the start of my four year commitment to football and marching band I saw leadership all around me. My first summer of football my freshman year the seniors were prime examples of leadership. They were right there to correct form on our lifts, blocks, and set the overall example of what it meant to be a Mead football player. Later that summer I threw in marching band camp to my agenda. The drum major, my sister, lead the band with kept the entire band in order, and worked with us until our sets were flawless.…
