Mel Martinez is an American lobbyist and former politician who served as a United States Senator from Florida from 2005 to 2009 and as general chairman of the Republican Party from November 2006 until October 19, 2007. He is more than the nation’s first Cuban American Senator. Because he was one of only two Hispanic’s in the U.S. Senate (the other was Democratic Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado) and because he represented Florida and it’s pivotal electoral power, Martinez was perhaps the U.S’s most important Hispanic lawmaker. But when he was elected in Fall 2004 Martinez was widely regarded as little more than a lapdog for President George Bush.…

In the Gonzales v. Carhart case, the justice with the most persuasive argument is Justice Kennedy and the Justice with the least persuasive argument is Justice Ginsberg. According to the decision of the case, the Partial Birth law is not vague, but as mentioned in class, the Partial Birth law is in fact vague because of the amount of time that was spent deciding whether which actions would be considered homicide. For example, a woman who is on her way to get an abortion, delivers the baby before she gets to the clinic and then kills the baby herself because of her “intent” to get an abortion to begin with. But although the decision is a bit controversial, Justice Kennedy’s argument is still more persuasive because it gives woman the privilege to continue to get abortions if they wish, and there are guidelines that are set up to know how abortion procedures are to be managed. For example, in the article it states that the Partial Birth Act’s text demonstrates that it regulates and proscribes performing the intact D&E procedure.…

Throughout the decades, numerous expeditions have made contact with indigenous people. When it comes to the different crews of the expeditions, they differ when it comes to the attitude and treatment of natives. This paper will focus on the contrast between Lope de Aguirre’s crew and the Rondon Commission. The first difference involves the goal of integration versus enslavement. The Rondon Commission view themselves as “agents of change” and believes in the eventual integration of the natives ("Science to Build," 2012).…

Today, women have some pretty tough standards to fulfil. They are expected to always look pretty and be a perfect image of a barbie doll, and it’s completely unrealistic and unfair to women with body types who do not fit the “right” image. The book I read, The Core of The Sun by Johanna Sinisalo, took a look on how women are treated in such an abhorrent unfair society. Although women have won the right to do a lot in modern society, how they are treated, how they’re paid, and how they are supposed to take care of their bodies all show the hold society and the government have on women. The book is set in an alternative near future where it follows Vanna, whose dependency for illegal chili peppers leads her on an journey into a world where love…

Most of his killing from the beginning were motivated by anger or were spurred killing when he would hear of a crime that was being committed and he believed that specific criminal need to be shown justice, albeit a justice of his own views which was very gruesome, but the most common reason for Filho’s murderers was revenge (TheLostGod). The first victim was the vice-Mayor of Alfenas, his reasoning was because the mayor had fired Filho’s father, a security guard at a school, under false accusations of stealing foods from the cafeteria. The school is currently in a transition and re-structuring. We are about to begin the process of remolding and expanding the high school, combining two buildings and staff into one.
