Eating insects is considered gross in western social orders yet, in other countries, 2 billion individuals devour insects on a frequently premise. Some will say that the advantages of utilizing bugs as nourishment is great to the point that it's about time that we change over the other 5 billion individuals into insects. Marcel Dicke, ecological entomologist, discusses this in a short speech called “Why Not Eat Insects.” The speaker’s main point that he is trying to get across is basically what the title says. With our population growing so rapidly and food supply being so limited, the question of why not eat insects is a serious question. One assumption I took from his speech is that everyone should add insects to their everyday routine. I would agree with this based on the …show more content…
Some of the things he addressed were very shocking, especially when he said people in the western world as of now eat a standard of 500g of bugs for each year. The sources are mostly prepared sustenance such as soups and noodles. The speaker also presented tomato soup as a sample. Tomatoes that look great and new are sold wholesale, yet those with insects inside are mashed and made into soup. As long as the base principles for safety are met, it's fine. In my eyes, this is shocking because I had no idea insects were in noodles and soup Another effect I think he wanted his audience to have is not to be grossed out by the insects but to embrace the insects. The speaker utilizes diverse sorts of rhetorical appeals to express what is on his mind the crowd such as, ethos, pathos and logos. Utilizing pathos, the speakers tries to be funny in a few events to get a positive criticism from the gathering of people.
