Marble is a non-foliated, contact metamorphic rock. A metamorphic rock is made from other igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks that change form when a lot of heat and pressure is applied. Contact metamorphism describes the rock formation. This means that the rock was formed when magma came in contact with the rock and heated it up to a point where a new rock formed. Foliation consists of light and dark layers of minerals. also known as banding, marble doesn’t exhibit this property.
