We see many great dramatist and the great plays in this period of time. Shakespeare is considered as genius dramatist in the history of English literature. He is believed, by universal consent to be the greatest author of England and holds a central position in the Elizabethan drama.
Shakespeare is believed to mostly self-school as because of his adverse circumstances. He mainly derived education from Nature and his own experiences. Maqbool(2004) directed by VB, is an adaptation of Macbeth The plot of the film is inspired by Shakespearean Macbeth in terms of events and the characterization. In the backdrop of the movie we see Mumbai underworld and events related to it though being inspired by the play. Bhardwaj has successfully co-related the events and happenings of the plays with the intrigues and conspiracy of the Mumbai underworld.
The leading role of Macbeth was played by the actor Irfankhan and his name was Maqbool .Abbaji or Jahangirkhan is a powerful underworld don with his co-star (Tabbu) Nimmi his mistress, who loved Maqbool his most trusted man. He loved her but is in debt to Abbaji and respects him so he maintains a distance. The famous art stars Om puri and Nassaruddin Shah are corrupt police officers , they are projecting the tree witches in the play , the movie stars off with their prediction for Maqbool who would be an underworld don of Mumbai , Maqbool is very loyal to Abbaji but the officers convince him to take over the place (position) of …show more content…
This desire to be with Nimmi is so strong and moreover she instigates Maqbool to achieve his dream by killing Abbaji. Being inspired by Nimmi he begins on his mission to become the don ensuring that he faces no competitor. Overpowering his ambition he finally manages to kill him with the help of Nimmi , the replica of what Shakespeare gives in Macbeth ,Abbaji is murdered in cold blood while he is in bed at night. He is able to secure the love of Nimmi as his beloved but the guilt of murdering Abbaji torments them, they are so guilty that they see his ghost many times .While at the same time ,there is a rise of suspicion about Maqbool’s hand in Abbaji’s murder .In the end the lovers die a tragic
